Honey Hunting Nepal
Honey hunting is an adventurous activity carried out by Gurung and Magar and other indigenous coummunities in different remote parts of Nepal, which is significant both in terms of adventure and livelihood. There are several hilly regions in Nepal where honey hunting is carried out.Bhujug and Pasgaon, resided by Gurungs and Magars are the famous places for honey hunting in Nepal. The livelihood of the inhabitants in the region is honey hunting.

The tradition of honey hunting has passed on from generation to generation in the far flung areas of Nepal, which has started gaining touristic importance. As a result, travelers across the world would like to enjoy honey hunting in Nepal. Gahale gauon and Bhujung including Annapurna Region, Dhading and Jharlang across Ganesh Himal and Arun Valley Region have several honey hunting sites.The honeycombs are hung upside down on the cliffs and traditional honey hunters of Nepal posses extraordinary skills and expertise regarding honey hunting.

 They are incredible rock climbers and risk takers as they cling to the hundreds of meters of cliffs with a very traditional equipments like ropes and anchors. Honey hunting is a long standing adventurous tradition in Nepal. The hair raising scenes of honey hunting performed by locals clinging to the rocks and swinging down the cliffs tied to a bamboo-woven ropes gives goosebumps. The professional honey hunters climb cliffs which are above 300 meters with extraordinary skills and knowledge that they have accumulated over the years. Spring and autumn are the best seasons for honey hunting.

The honey hunting tour starts with a brief sightseeing of the major UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu, from where we will drive to Besishahar(760m) en route to Ghale Gaon(1035m). From Ghale Gaon, we move to Bhujung (1567m) , where we will stay in a local lodge. The next day, we will reach out to Thaku Bhir ( honey hunting site) , where we will be staying for two nights in the camp to enjoy honey hunting performed by the locals. on the third day , we will go back to Bhujung,from where we will drive back to Beshi Shahar en route to Kathmandu.

Itinerary Details

Day 1 - Arrive Kathmandu and then trasfer to hotel.

Day 2 - Kathmandu to Besi Sahar by bus(Approx. 5 hours), overnight at hotel.

Day 3 - Besi Sahar to Ghalegaon hiking(Approx. 6 to seven hours), overnight at a local lodge.

Day 4 - Ghalegaon to Bhujung hiking(Approx.  3 hours), overnight at camp.

 Day 5 - Bhujung to Thaku Bhir(hunting site), overnight at camp.

 Day 6 - Thaku Bhir ( Hunting watching day) , overnight at camp.

 Day 7 - Thaku Bhir to Bhujung hiking (Approx.3 hours), overnight at a local lodge.

Day 8 - Bhujung to Besi Sahar hiking (Approx. 6 hours), overnight at a local lodge.

 Day 9 - Besi Sahar to Kathmandu (Approx. five hours drive), overnight at hotel.

Itinerary Details:

Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu, And transfer to Hotel. O/n at Hotel.
Day 02: Kathmandu – Besishahar (5hr Drive) by Tourist coach. O/n at hotel.
Day 03 : Besishahar – Ghalegaun (6-7hr trek). O/n local lodge.
Day 04: Ghalegaun – Bhujung (3hrs trek). O/n local lodge.
Day 05: Bhujung – Thaku Bhir (hunting place). O/n camping.
Day 06: ThakuBhir (Free day to watching hunting). O/n camping.
Day 07: ThakuBhir – Bhujung (3hrs trek). O/n local lodge.
Day 08: Bhujung – Besishahar (6hrs trek back). O/n at Hotel.
Day 09: Besishahar – Kathmandu. (5hrs Drive Back). by Tourist coach O/n at Hotel.
Day 10: Kathmandu O/n at Hotel.
Day 11: Departure onward.
