Mt. Dhaulagiri Expedition entails the climbing of Mount Dhaulagiri(8167m) the 7th highest peak in Nepal situated at 120km from Kaligandaki which was first summited by a Swiss– Austrian Expedition team. The normal route , northeast ridge that was used by Swiss – Austrian team in 1960. Camp I(5900m) on the East Col forges a way through Camp II(6400m) en route to Camp III(7200m) at the west side has icy slopes and strong wind can complicate the climb while pushing ahead to Camp IV(7500m). From camp the team will have a direct push to the summit.
Normally Dhaulagiri is climbed via the first route that is chosen by most climbers. Altogether there are five ridges of Dhaulagiri and two facades. There are Italian, Swiss and French Camps and climbers can climb Mount Dhaulagiri via almost every direction. Mount Dhaulagiri is technically challenging and climbers need to be skilled and experienced to use equipments and to deal with climbing complexities on the route to the summit. First, climbed by Swiss Expedition Team in 1960, Dhaulagiri Expedition in 1960, Dhaulagiri Expedition is one of the most adventurous and formidable expedition peaks in Nepal. During 1800’s British Suryeyors saw this mountain but remained unknown until 1949 when a Swiss Expedition Team carried out an aerial survey.
The trekking starts with a brief sightseeing of the Major UNESCO World Heritage Sites followed by a drive to Beni Bazar (889m) en route to Darbang (1179m) –Baskot Village (1850m) –Bagar (2500m)– Dovan (1800m)– Pina (2700m)– Italian Base Camp (5380m)– Dhaulagiri Base Camp (4750m)– Climbing of Dhaulagiri (27Days). After the successful accent of Dhaulagiri the team will trace back to Dhaulagiri Base Camp (4750m)– Yak Kharka (4037m)– Jomsom (2743m)- Pokhara (800m) from where a flight back to Kathmandu(1400m) wraps up the expedition.
