Pach Pokhari Mera Peak Trekking : Overview
Pach Pokhari Mera peak Trekking is a popularly new trekking destination newly introduced in Solukhumbu, which is less frequented trekking destionation in Nepal. Since the location of Pachpokhari is enveloped within Mahakulung Rural Municipality, travelers have to make a journey to Mahakulung in order to reach Pach Pokhari and Mera Peak. Pach Pokhari trekking is named after five glacial lakes which are believed to be scared and holds importance for Hindu as well as Buddhist people. This trekking trail has plenty to offer in terms of natural as well as cultural heritages. Pach Pokhari trekking is one of the major trekking icons in the Estern Nepal. As newly opened trekking destination, it is also regarded as 'a virgin trekking destination'.

How to reach Pach Pokhari - Mera Peak?

Basically there are two ways that lead you to Pach Pokhari and Mera Peak: 1.Kathmandu to Phaplu flight and 2.Kathmandu to Tumlingtar flight.

Kathmandu to Phaplu Flight takes you to Phaplu from Kathmandu, driving afterwards to Mahakulung Rural Municipality rich in Kulung culture and tradition. Optionally, you can also do hiking from Phaplu to Mahakulung.  Thereafter the trail continues forward via different spots named Chalem and Kholakharka before reaching out to Pach Pokhari and Mera peak.

Kathmandu to Tumlingtar Flight takes you to Tumlingtar, a famous trading point located in Arun Valley, the deepest valley of Nepal. Then the trekking proceeds ahead to Mahakulung Rural Municipality and follows the same route to Pach Pokhari and Mera Peak. This trekking offers you the panoramic views, flora, fauna and Sherpa culture and tradition in addition to that of Kulung.

Point to be noted: You can also travel by jeep to Mahakulung from Kathmandu. On this route, you will camp at Pattale (2840m), a famous viewpoint that reveals many beautiful mountain views including Mt. Everest(8848m) on a clear day.

The best time to travel Pach Pokhari-Mera Peak Trekking?
As a matter of fact, there is not any given time for Pach Pokhari and Mera peak Climbing. Depending on the time available in your hand, you can do this trekking any time. But when it comes to the most opportune timing, Autumn and Spring are marked the best. You can do the trekking even in winter, but not with ease. The severe cold may complicate the trekking if you do it in winter. For any avid or experienced trekker weather complications rather add thrill and adventure whereas inexperienced and first-timers are sure to find weather hostilities really intimidating. The fluctuating weather in the mountain ranges tends to be ticky all the time.

How difficult is Pach Pokhari Mera Peak Trekking?
Pach Pokhari Mera Peak trekking is considered to be mediocre in terms of difficulty. Avid trekkers as well as freshers share the common experience that it takes a good deal of physical stamina and mental readiness to accept all kinds of exhaustion to enjoy the core essense of Pach Pokhari-Mera Peak Trekking. Permit Fee for Pach Pokhari Mera Peak Trekking

  • Spring Season (March, April and May) - USD250
  • Autumn Season (Septeember, October and November) - USD125
  • Winter Season (December, January and February)- USD70
  • Summer Season (June, July and August)- USD70

The abovementioned price is monitored by Nepal Mountaineering Association. In addition, the entry price for Makalu Barun National Park is as follows:

  • Rs. 100 per Nepali Citizen
  • Rs.1500 per SAARC Country tourist
  • Rs.3000 per foreign tourist
  • For children below 10, the entry is free of cost.


Physical fitness for Pach Pokhari Mera Peak Trekking
Physical fitness is one of the essentials in trekking. You are required to walk six to seven hours a day at minimum. The paths consist of rocky landscape that puts you through physical exhaustion. You need to maintain a proper level of physical stamina to make your journey through different highs and lows. If you are obese, you will shed off some of your weight on the trail. If you are already fit, the trekking will help you remain fitter revitalizing you physically as well as mentally. If you have a problem of obesity, you might expect the altitude to further complicate the journey with problems like altitude sickenss.

What kind of hotels or lodges are available on the trail?
Small lodges to big hotels are available on the trail. In the Lower Everest, we have small lodges dotted around the trail. We have personal connection with each hotel or lodge proprietor and we can book them for you in advance. In the Upper Everest, there are luxury hotels available all over the trail. Some of the hotels are world-class and have attached bathroom with them. They even serve you breakfast, lunch, dinner and even hot shower. In the former days there would be scarcity of hotels and lodges but at present the trail to Pach Pokhari and Everest region has lodges and hotels in plenty.

Day 01: Arrival in kathmandu 1334m, transfer to hotel
Day 02: After breakfast, Kathmandu valley excursion with your own activities and preparation for the trek

Day 03: Katmandu to Tumlingtar by flight (approximately 1 hours)
Day 04: Tumlingtar to Chyawabesi (280m). walk approximately 5-6 hours
Day 05: Chyawabesi to gothe bazar.walk approximately 5-6 hours
Day 06: Gothe bazar to Salpa Phedi (1680m).walk approximately 5-6 hours
Day 07: Salpa Phedi to Salpa Pokari (2880m).walk approximately 5-6 hours
Day 08: Salpa Pokhari to Silichong peak and back to Sanam walk approximately 8-9 hours
Day 09: Sanam to Gudel (1900m.) approximately 5-6 hours

Day 10: Gudel Acclimatize- Kulung cultural show- laundry day
Day 11: Gudel to Chheskam (1900m.) Approximately 5-6 hours
Day 12: Chheskam to Khiraule (2,600m.) Approximately 6-7 hours
Day 13: Khiraule to Chalem Kharka (3,560m.) Approximately 6-7 hours
Day 14: Chalem to Khola kharka (4,274m.) Via Pach Pokhari :5 holy lakes approximately 6-7 hours
Day 15: Khola Kharka to Kothe (3,691m/ 12,109ft): approximately 7-8 hours
Day 16: Kothe to Thaknak (4,358m/ 14,297ft): approximately 3-4 hours
Day 17: Thaknak to Khare (5,04m/ 16,486ft): approximately 2-3 hours
Day 18: Khare: Acclimatization and pre- Climbing training
Day 19: Khare to Mera High Camp (5,780m/ 18958ft): approximately 6-7 hours
Day 20: Mera High Camp to Summit (6,461m/ 21,190ft) and back to Khare (5045m/ 16547ft): 8-9 hours
Day 21: Reserve Day for Contingency
Day 22: Khare to Kothe (3600m/ 11808ft): approximately 4-5 hours
Day 23: Kothe to Thulu Kharka (4,300m/ 14,107ft): approximately 6-7 hours
Day 24: Thuli Kharka to Lukla Via Zartwa La pass: approximately 6-7 hours
Day 25: Fly to Kathmandu
Day 26: Transfer to International airport for finale departure
