Technically stating,  Upper Mustang, Lo-Manthang Trekking starts with as brief sightseeing of  the major UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu (1400m) before a scenic flight to Pokhara (800m), a beautiful city with Phewa lake that reflects a stunning image of Machhapurhhre (6993m). From Pokhara another flight to Jomsom (2710m ) takes us to Kagbeni (2800m) en route to Chele (3050m) traversing ahead to Ghiling (3570m), Charang (3560m), that brings us to famous Lo-Manthang (3809m), where a short visit to Ghar Gompa and Chogo La is paid then the trail leads us through Ghemi (3520m), Samar (3660m), Kagbeni (2810m), en route to Jomsom (2720m) from where a flight back to Pokhara (800m) bring the trekking to an end.

Day 08: Charang (Tsarang) to Lo-Manthang (3809 m) 6-7 hours walk. Overnight in camp.with a visit to Ghar Gompa and Chogo La.
Day 09: Lo-Manthang - rest day or sightseeing around the place. Night in the same camp.
Day 10: Lo-Manthang After breakfast sightseeing on the other side:the Lhari Dzong Gompa Gompa Tinghar, Tubten Gompa and back to camp. Night in the same camp.
Day 11: Lo-Manthang to Ghemi 5 hours walk (3520m). Overnight in camp.
Day 12: Ghemi go 5-6 hours to Temple (Samar) (3660 m). Overnight in camp.

Day 14: Temple 6 hours walk to Kagbeni (2810 m). Overnight in camp.
Day 15: Kagbeni 5 hours walk to Jomsom (2720 m). Overnight in camp.

#Upper Mustang Trekking Cost from Pokhara 
Upper Mustang Trekking Cost USD1550 is in effect at Himalayan Wild Treks if the trekking is started and ended at Pokhara, which is less expensive than the cost charged if started from Kathmandu. The above-mentioned cost is set up based on the calculation of ACAP Permit Fee, Especial Upper Mustang Trekking Permits, Accommodation, Transportation, Staffs (Porters and Guide) Wages, Staff Insurance and all the government taxes. Since the trekking starts and ends at Pokhara, the itinerary will also be designed shorter. The cost for the trekkings started from Pokhara is considerably discounted. We try to provide discounts as much as possible and reasonable. 


#Permit Fees for Upper Mustang and Lo- Manthang
The following is the permit fee detail for Upper Mustang.

  • ACAP Fee : - Rs.2000, which is approximately USD$20 per person.
  • ACAP Fee for SAARC Coutnry Visitor : - Rs.200.
  • Restricted Area Permit Fee :- USD$500 per person for the first ten days. USD$50 will be charged for each additional day after 1Oth day onwards.

Upper Mustang and Lo- Manthang area are classified as restricted area. As it lies within Annapurna Conservation Area, travelers here are charged Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) fee as well. Himalayan Wild Treks can help you make necessary arrangements regarding permit fees.

Highlights of Upper Mustang Lo-Manthang Trek– 19 Days
With a brief sightseeing of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu, and a scenic flight to Pokhara, Upper Mustang is long preserved tourist destination. The trail leads through treeless barren landscape. Lo- Manthang is located in the center of Mustang where Tibetan monasteries and stupas are dottend around the arid treeless terrain. The view of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna from Poon Hill along with the mind-blowing morning sunrise view gives unworldly experience. Lo– Manthang is a stronghold of famous Thakali people for the warm hospitality and generosity. In addition, sighteeing of Dhaulagiri icefall seems truly arcane. Traversing ahead, a visit to Mustang and Muktinat to witness the eternal flame under the Muktinath Temple takes one aback.

#Upper Mustang Difficulty
Upper Mustang obviously a challenging trekking destination, which is not a stroll in the park. Travelers are supposed to be capable of hiking for six to seven hours in the trans-himalayan land. The land is serrated and convoluted that poses its own kind of geographical thrills and complexities. Being a remote trekking destination, travelers are required to be physically as well as mentally prepared for Upper Mustang Difficulty. The path meanders through innumerable ups and downs. Going past snow-capped mountains through desert-like areas similar to that of Tibet, the landscape here. If you are physically fit and avid you can enjoy Mustang trekking.

Best Season for Upper Mustang
Summer season (June, July aand August) is the best season to visit Upper Mustang Area, which is located in the rainshadow area. This implies the fact that Upper Mustang recieves hardly any rain and the clouds presence in the sky is also not so ubiquitous. Therefore trekking to Upper Mustang, the restricted area is doable in the summer season. Subsequently, winter (December, January and February) and Spring(March, April, May) are the second best time for the trekking in Summer Season. Winter might be extremely cold. Though we are constrained by the nature of time you have in hand, we can organize trekking to Upper Mustang around the year.

Physical Fitness for Upper Mustang
It is mandatory to be physically fit for Upper Mustang. Most importantly, it is a very remote trekking destination thereby causing you to be physically as well as mentally prepared to walk six to seven hours a day. If you are able to cover long distances despite all the fatigue and strain that tends to drain you. If you are overweight, you may need to get fit to avoid the possible hindrances on the way, which is caused by physical states like obesity. Make sure you have necessary fitness level for the adventurous trekking like Upper Mustang Trekking. Keep also in mind that you don't have to be super fit for Upper Mustang.
